The 24th annual General Sam Houston Folk Festival runs April 29 through May 1. The festival features live music, workshops, museum tours, costumed historical characters, various performances and demonstrations, arts and crafts, food, and more.

PS: Want to volunteer? Organizers of craft demonstrations are seeking volunteers for four-hour shifts at the festival. Free training will be offered at Wynne Home Arts Center at the following sessions:
Marbling paper for scrapbooking: 2 to 4 p.m.; 4 to 6 p.m.; and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21.
Indian bead weaving and magic string: 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23.
Volunteers are free to attend any session. Volunteers enter the festival for free to work four hours and then may spend the rest of the day enjoying the festival. For more information, call instructor Tamara Chasteen at (936)661-1779 or the Wynne Home at (936)291-5424.
