Date: February 4, 2012
Time: 5:00pm -8:00pm
Location: Walker County Fairgrounds

Doc Holiday, a longtime resident of Huntsville and very recognizable KSAM personality, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. On February 4th, KSAM, along with other organizations and businesses in town, will be sponsoring a fundraiser at the Walker County Fairgrounds to honor Doc Holiday’s retirement and to also raise money to alleviate the medical costs for Doc and his family.
There will be lots of BBQ, desserts, music with Variety Sounds and possibly local bands, a raffle, and an auction. KSAM is currently collecting items for the auction. If you would like to donate an item or money to this cause, please call the KSAM office at 936-295-2651. Any donation or help would be greatly appreciated!
This event is still in the planning stages. Ticket costs have not been announced. We will update this article when that information is released.
Planetarium Series: "Extreme Planets"
Event: Planetarium: “Extreme Planets”
Date: January 27, 2012 at 7:00pm
Location: Farrington Building Room 102
The Physics Department will be kicking off the planetarium series program on January 27th with “Extreme Planets.” This program will demonstrate the tools and techniques astronomers use to discover planets orbiting around other stars, and it will also examine the possible environments on some of these planets.
The SHSU Planetarium contains the Mediaglobe I projector, which allows visitors to take a virtual journey through space. It also allows its guest to see the night sky as it would appear to someone in any part of the world, how it appeared in the past, and how it will look in the future. The best part about this is that it is FREE and open to the public. You don’t have to be a SHSU student to appreciate the beauty and wonders of the deep space!

Description (borrowed from HERE, because I have never seen this play):
"The Little Sisters of Hoboken, residents of Mt. St. Helens Convent and teachers at the school, have a problem. It seems Sister Julia (Child of God) has accidentally killed off 52 sisters with a botulism-laced vichyssoise. But even worse, the remaining nuns only had enough cash to bury 48 of the dearly departed; the other four are in the freezer. Nunsense is a benefit concert staged by the Little Sisters to raise money for a proper burial (before the health inspector comes)."

"Now it isn't that I don't like you, Susan, because, after all, in moments of quiet, I'm strangely drawn toward you, but - well, there haven't been any quiet moments." -David Huxley (Cary Grant's character from Bringing up Baby.
This Saturday, the Huntsville's "Junior Fellows" organization will be hosting a "Cary Grant Film Festival" at the Wynne Home. This should be an exciting event for those who have the good taste to be fans of Cary Grant. There are so many Cary Grant movies to choose from. My favorites are Arsenic and Old Lace and Bringing up Baby. This particular event will feature the following two movies:
- The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer
- The Awful Truth
For more information, contact Mike Yawn at (936) 294-1456 or email mike.yawn@shsu.edu. I haven't been able to find an exact time for this event, but it is in the evening since dinner will be served.
Tickets must be reserved in advance.
